Pink Lady

As promised, the connection is “pink”.

This photo was intended to be a simplistic indication of someone apparently ignoring or not noticing the discreet “Anne Frank Huis” plaque next to the door; and therefore being unaware of the tragic events associated with this World War Two story.

In reality of course, people passing this close to the door are probably fully aware of the story and may well have stopped to look at the museum/house entrance a little further along the street to the right. Indeed, the photo below shows a reflection of the same lady moments earlier having photographed the door shown here.

So, this illustrates the issue of how photographs are used, perhaps to tell an inaccurate story or for propaganda purposes.  The single image can therefore be misleading and is something that the RPS Contemporary group encourages photographers to be aware of by sometimes dealing with issues/themes using multiple photos.

So, having decided that the pink lady photo could imply too much of a simplistic story or scenario, I thought it would be interesting to show different people in relation to the building.  Firstly, the older lady taking the photo because Anne Frank sadly never achieved such an age and, secondly, the younger lady in the photo shown below who was about the same age as Anne Frank when she lived here.  How do their thoughts in relation to this place/story differ?  How might the ability to use the young lady’s mobile phone and photo technology have changed the outcome of the Anne Frank story?  Over to you.
