024 Exercise Regimes

The connection is seaside walks, the one above resembling a more traditional promenade than the one in the previous post.

The seaside seems to bring out behaviour in people that they wouldn’t dream of doing in other public places. Sunbathing as a solitary activity seems to be something that people are only prepared to do on beaches.  Doing solitary exercises on the spot or limbering-up, as in the image above, would seem to fall into the same category because I very rarely see people doing something similar in the urban area where I live, even in parks.  Having said that, I sometimes see group activities in parks that resemble the exercise people tend to reserve for the gym, so perhaps people in general are losing their inhibitions.

As for the chap in the photo, even though the beach can be a place for unusual activities, the sight of the lady openly limbering-up before some form of exercise seems to be making him wonder why she is bothering to do what she is doing.  After all, health professionals often tell us that the best exercise is moderate walking, cycling and swimming.  He might also be wondering why some people strive for a sculpted body-shape, or how much motivation is needed to do regular exercise…especially if they’re on holiday.
