Indoor “Street Photography”

004 Bedtime Story LR

Well, this is one way to widen the scope of photographs on this blog; allow a tenuous link in the chain from the previous one.  The key word is “sleeper”.  I could also claim a further railway link because this scene (“Bedtime Story”) from 1995 was spotted at Liverpool Lime Street railway station.  Yes, it’s another scan from a slide, warmed up slightly in Lightroom.  I guess the link had to be tenuous because the search for an image with a more obvious railway related connection has revealed that I have none (which is almost a relief), except perhaps for a few railway related buildings….which could actually follow on from this photo more naturally. We’ll see.

I was, and still am, trying to pursue street photography, ie, due to my innate cowardice, stealing shots of human behaviour from a distance.  Some photographers engaged in this side of things advise asking people first, whilst others say that this would dilute the truth/meaning of the scene.  Not asking of course saves time, but does that mean photographers sometimes unnecessarily invade privacy?  Are people in the public domain sometimes too concerned about having their actions recorded?  (My old Nikon Coolpix 4500 was a perfect stealth camera for such photos, although the very poor shutter lag usually meant the scene was missed.)  Anyway, the debate over what should/should not be photographed where and when and of whom has raged and will continue to rage elsewhere…or perhaps in any comments people might want to make on this post.
